Barbara Walker Obituary

WOODVILLE, TEXAS - A memorial service for Barbara Elaine Riley Walker, age 68 of Woodville, is set for Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Woodville. Family visitation will take place one hour prior to service.

Barbara was born June 11, 1955, at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville, the daughter of Howard Lynn Riley Sr. and Audrey Elaine (Nichols) Riley. She graduated in 1973 from Kirby High School in Woodville and then attended nursing school at Angelina County Junior College, graduating in May of 1975. She married Frank Erwin Walker on Nov. 1, 1975, at First Baptist Church of Woodville, and they were a military family until 1984. During their time in the military, they were stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, Schwabach, Germany and Fort Campbell, Ky., and became the proud parents of three sons, Christopher, Jonathon and Brian.

Barbara was a devoted wife and mother, and tremendously enjoyed a long nursing career working at various facilities in the Tyler County area, and was a nursing home surveyor for the State of Texas. She retired from the State of Texas on June 1, 2020, but maintained part-time nursing employment until the time of her passing. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Woodville, and being Grammy to her six grandchildren was one of her greatest pleasures in life. Watching them play ball or compete in various competitions or do whatever extracurricular activities they enjoyed was her number one hobby. Barbara passed away on March 22, 2024, at HCA Houston Healthcare in Kingwood.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Frank Walker of Woodville; sons, Jonathon Walker and wife, Kasie, of Lufkin and Brian Walker of Woodville; daughter-in law, Lindy Walker of Woodville; grandchildren, Chloe, Noah, Isabella and Savannah Walker of Lufkin and Riley and Hazel Walker of Woodville; brother, Lynn Riley and wife, Cheryl, of Tennessee; father-in-law, Fred Walker, and wife, Billie, of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Melvin Walker and wife, Silvia, of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Terrie Walker and partner, Rick, of Galveston; nieces, Melissa Riley and Lynsey Riley-Auman and husband, Josh, all of Tennessee; nephews, Dusty Walker of Houston and Josh Granberry and wife, Kathryn, of Minnesota; great-nieces and great nephews, Abram and Mae of Tennessee and June and Briggs of Minnesota; friend, Crystal Flowers; and numerous extended family members, loved ones and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first son, Christopher Allan Walker on Sept. 16, 1984; and parents, Howard and Audrey Riley.
